The MSDN Canada User Group Tour – AJAX and ASP.NET “Atlas”

The Ottawa .NET Community in conjunction with MSDN Canada is pleased to invite you to its inaugural event of the 2006/2007 season: AJAX and ASP.NET/Atlas! Come join us on Tuesday September 19th to learn more about how you can use these technologies to create leaner and meaner web applications!

About "AJAX and ASP.NET/Atlas"
ASP.NET “Atlas” makes it easy to build rich, interactive Web-based applications for personalized Web experiences. It provides a framework that includes a suite of ASP.NET server controls, Web services, and JavaScript libraries. In this session, you'll learn about ASP.NET/Atlas and how this framework makes it dramatically easier to develop richer Web experiences.

About our Speaker:
Christian Beauclair has recently joined the MSDN team responsible for keeping Canadian developers abreast of key Microsoft technologies. Christian has been with Microsoft for the past 12 years and has a passion for software development and all its different facets. He has coded in Modula-2, xBase, VB, VB.NET and now C#. He has also been involved in major software applications both at Microsoft and his prior employer. His passion also extends to games (he had his Xbox 360 on order 6 months before the release) and various collectibles. Some background info on Atlas:
If you aren't familiar with Atlas, it's a framework for building richer, more interactive web applications. The first thing that comes to mind is "experience", the user experience is so much better courtesy of Atlas.  If the visitor of your website does not have to endure a lot of postbacks to access content and/or navigate your site all the better. The second thing would have to be the seamless integration with ASP.NET 2.0, very easy to AJAX enable applications without having to write a lot of code. The third would be the "Atlas Control Toolkit" which is a library of free Atlas enabled controls.  There are already 21 controls at present and the goal is to have somewhere between 50 - 100 controls by the end of the year.  All of the source code is freely available with modification license for this project hosted on CodePlex.

If you haven't had a chance to check out what Atlas can do for your ASP.NET 2.0 application you might want to check out this video by Scott Guthrie "Developing ASP.NET 2.0 Applications using Atlas", there are more videos here in case you want more.
